Ovid- SilverPlatter is a major vendor of
the abstracts and indexes for which the library has subscriptions. WebSPIRS
is a Web-based database search and retrieval software for Ovid-SilverPlatter indexes and abstracts.
To assist users in searching databases using the WebSPIRS interface, Ovid-SilverPlatter has
created several interactive, online tutorials. These tutorial includes instructional modules that cover the
following:
Searching using keywords
Extending a search using truncation symbols
Combining keywords using Boolean operators (e.g., 'AND', 'OR')
Using the 'Index' to find searchable words
Reusing searches in the 'Search History' set
Finding alternative terms using the 'Thesaurus', where operational
Use the WebSPIRS Tutorials link above to access the tutorials. Once
on the Ovid-SilverPlatter tutorials page, you may not see a link for the
specific database you want to learn how to use. However, search features and most functions demonstrated in
any of the tutorials are
applicable to almost all of the Ovid-SilverPlatter index and abstract databases to which the library
subscribes.
