The ISU subscription pays for nearly 24-hour access, allows for 8 simultaneous users, and provides substructure searching features. The database is available Sunday 1:00 a.m. EST-Saturday 1:00 p.m. EST. Peak use times at ISU are between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. We suggest using SciFinder Scholar before 10:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. for more successful logins.
SciFinder Scholar is roughly equivalent to the computerized versions of Chemical Abstracts and MEDLINE. It includes journal articles, book chapters, patents, conference proceedings, technical reports, and dissertations as well as book reviews and biographical information. It contains a wealth of information on chemical substances and calculated properties. Chemical literature is covered from 1907 to the present, while medical literature is covered from 1965 to the present. Chemical reaction information is also now available from 1974 to the present. Beginning in 2001 and working backwards, information has now been added on cited references and records now contain hot links to many references and some full-text articles. CASSI on CD may be useful for locating journal abbreviations from SciFinder citations.

Using SciFinder Scholar off campus. At this time SciFinder
Scholar can only be used off campus by connecting the off campus computer
by modem to an on campus computer that can then connect to the library's server.
One method of doing this is through an ISU
PPP account. You cannot use SciFinder Scholar by way of another Internet
provider.
If you do not wish to download the software, the database is available
on computer workstations in Parks Library (in Rooms 32 and 198A, as well as
in the Reference Area in Rooms 188B and 188D) and also on workstations in the
Physical Sciences Reading Room and the Veterinary Medical Library.
Searching help is available from the CAS Learning Center, at the Parks Library's Reference Desk or by contacting the Science and Technology Dept., Room 152 Parks Library or calling (515) 294-3642. Help for importing data from SciFinder to EndNote, Procite, or Reference Manager is also available from CAS, along with some troubleshooting tips.
