The Philosopher's Index

The Philosopher's Index provides indexing and abstracts from books and journals of philosophy and related fields. It covers the areas of ethics, aesthetics, social philosophy, political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysic logic as well as material on the philosophy of law, religion, science, history, education, and language.

The Philosopher's Index is a current, comprehensive, and easy-to-use subject and author index covering the period from 1940 to the present. The Index includes more than 480 journals from more than 40 countries and is updated quarterly. In addition to the subject and author indexes, each issue or edition includes a book review index. The database cites works in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. It also includes complete coverage of international articles from anthologies and books written in English and other languages.

  • Connect to The Philosopher's Index using the CSA interface.
  • Assistance in using this index is made available within the database by clicking the 'HELP' icon in the upper right hand corner of the database window.

Off campus access to this database is now supported for the ISU community.
