Biographical note


Leonard F. Kellogg was a Professor of forestry at ISU from 1949 until 1965, when he became Professor Emeritus. He received a bachelor of science degree in forestry in 1927 from the Yale School of Forestry. He served as junior forester at Shasta National Forest in California from 1924 to 1926. He worked in 1927 at the Appalachian Forest Experiment Station in Asheville, North Carolina. From 1928 to 1947 he worked with the Central States Forest Experiment Station at Columbus, Ohio as assistant and associate silviculturist and then as silviculturist. He served one year in 1948 with the Ames Branch of the Central States Forest Experiment Station before joining the Iowa State Department of Forestry. Kellogg was active in the Society of American Foresters, and was a member of Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma Delta and the California Foresters Association.

  

 

Collection description

 

Collection includes official, personal, and professional correspondence; course notes and syllabi; notes from faculty meetings, Conference programs; Correspondence and publications related to the Society of American Foresters; various research files on forestry subjects, in flood control, erosion prevention, lumber grading, disease prevention and characteristics on various species of trees; Research on Misc. regions, including Ohio River Basin, Tennessee River Basin, the Platte River, and a large amount of information on Iowa forestry, sawmills, national and state parks and forests. Collection also contains working manuscripts, published material, and numerous extension service reports. Also includes numerous photos of forests, tree, and aerial surveys, along with maps. (Boxes 1 thru 6 are Paige Boxes, Box 7 is a half-size Hollinger box, and Boxes 8 thru 9 are 20" oversize boxes.)
