Historical note

The Iowa State University Supervisory and Confidential Council was created in 1972 as the Staff Council. The Council was formed to listen to the concerns of the non-organized clerical employees of Iowa State University and act as a liaison between the employees and the administration.

In 1980, the Staff Council was renamed the Supervisory and Confidential Council. Supervisory staff are Merit employees who supervise other Merit employees and are not covered under collective bargaining agreements. Confidential staff are the Merit employees not subject to union contracts and are considered confidential because they have access to information that is used by the employer in collective bargaining.

The Council is made up of nine voting members and two ex-officio members, one from Human Resource Services and the other from the Provost Office. Council members are elected and serve three-year terms. The Council is responsible to the President of the University through the Assistant Vice President of Human Resource Services.

The collection consists of reports, correspondence, meeting minutes and agendas, constitutions, and membership lists. The records document the work of the Council and its relationship with Iowa State University.
