Historical note

 

The Professional & Scientific (P&S) Council was officially formed in 1977 after starting as an ad hoc committee in 1971.  According to the Council’s constitution, “the P&S Council serves as a resource and an advocate for P&S employees. The Council identifies the needs of its constituents, provides information and advice in response to those needs, and recommends to the administration policies and procedures that benefit P&S employees and assist in fulfilling the mission of Iowa State University.” 

 

The Council consists of an Executive Committee and six standing committees:  Communication Committee, Compensation and Benefits Committee, Peer Advisory Committee, Policies and Procedures Committee, Representation and Awards Committee, Retention and Recruitment Committee.  The P&S Council hosts Open Forums and bestows several awards to P&S employees.  In addition, the Council offers grants to P&S employees to help defer the costs of continuing education.

 

 

 

Collection description

 

The collection contains meeting minutes, agendas, policies and procedures, correspondence, and news clippings relating to the activities of the P&S Council.  The records also include studies and surveys concerning the attitudes, activities, and needs of the P&S staff.
