Historical note
|
|
The Iowa State
University Textiles and Clothing Fashion Show is an annual
event first held in 1982. The fashion show highlights
student designs and demonstrates the creativity of students
in the Apparel, Merchandising, Design, and Production
Program (AMDP) of the Department of Apparel, Educational
Studies, and Hospitality Management (AESHM) at Iowa State.
Students must be enrolled in AESHM 271/TC 471: Public
Relations and Events Management in order to produce and
promote the show. Funds for the production are raised by
ticket sales and through other fundraising events held
throughout the year.
Judges for the show are usually Iowa State graduates of the
apparel design program and fashion experts from around the
Midwest. Each year, one or two guest designers from across
the country are also invited to showcase their designs
during the show.
The fashion show grew out of the annual style show presented
by the Textiles and Clothing Club during VEISHEA. The 1983
production was the first to be called the Fashion Show and
it was held during VEISHEA on the steps of MacKay Hall. The
event was eventually moved to Fisher Theater where it was
held until 2004. By that time, the show was regularly
selling out the 450-seat facility and the following year the
show moved to C.Y. Stephens Auditorium to accommodate the
large audience.
