Biographical note

 
Roger P. Murphy was born on January 8, 1944. He earned a B.S. (1966) and an M.S. (1969) from Colorado State University. In 1969, he began working as an instructor in the Department of Industrial Administration at Iowa State University, and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1972. In 1975 he became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Iowa, and in 1986 he was promoted to Associate Professor (1986-2002).  

Students nominated Murphy for the Outstanding Teacher Award in the College of Business each year between 1980 and 1994, and he won the award in 1983 and1991 (he also earned awards for Outstanding Advisor in 1981 and 1985). Throughout the course of his career, Murphy was active in over two dozen departmental and university committees, including the Accounting Promotion and Tenure Committee, the Accounting Awards Committee, and the University Safety Committee. He also served as a faculty advisor for several student organizations, including the ISU Sport Parachuting Club, the ISU Water-Ski Club, and the ISU Accounting Club. Murphy retired from Iowa State University in 2002.

This collection contains materials related to Murphy’s time as an Associate Professor at Iowa State University, including his vitae, awards and nominations, publications, course materials, various seminars, and documents concerning his promotion and tenure. The collection also includes materials related to the summer accounting internship program (1984-1989), CPA Exam Review Course (1980-2001), and the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program.
