Historical note

 
First established in 1905 as the Colonnades Society, the Iowa State College (University) Chapter of Delta Upsilon was chartered in 1913.  The purpose of the Chapter is to foster the “Four Founding Principles of the Fraternity,” which are the promotion of friendship, the development of character, the diffusion of liberal culture and the advancement of justice.  The first chapter house was located at 209 Hyland Street (Ames, Iowa).  In 1932, the Fraternity moved to its current residence, 117 Ash Avenue (Ames, Iowa).

Collection Description

 
This collection contains records for the Colonnades Society, the predecessor of the Iowa State University Chapter of Delta Upsilon, including the articles of incorporation, meeting minutes, administrative records, and petitions to become a chapter of Delta Upsilon.   The records also consist of Delta Upsilon’s house meeting minutes, chapter by-laws and rules, correspondence, conference notes, newsletters, documentation of a hazing incident, news clippings, photographs, awards, and certificates.
