Historical note

 
The Iowa Chapter of FarmHouse Fraternity was chartered at Iowa State College (University) January 22, 1927.  The fraternity was first established in 1923 as Lanthus Fraternity, a local fraternity for agricultural students dedicated to excellence in scholarship, character, personality, and activities.  Throughout its existence, Lanthus, and later the Iowa Chapter of FarmHouse, has consistently received one of the highest grade point averages of all fraternities and sororities at Iowa State.

The official colors of FarmHouse are green, white and gold; the flower is the sunburst rose; and the motto is “Builder of Men”.  The fraternity house is located at 311 Ash Avenue (Ames, Iowa). 

 

 Collection description


The collection is comprised of two series:  series one contains the general records of the Iowa Chapter of FarmHouse Fraternity and series two consists of scrapbooks compiled by the fraternity.  The general records of FarmHouse include the records of Lanthus, annual reports, newsletters, news clippings, and architectural plans of the fraternity house.

The collection is divided into two series: Series 1, General Records, and Series 2 Scrapbooks.  Each series is arranged in chronological order.
