Biographical
note |
|
Edward Clinton Vandenburgh was born
in Audobon, Iowa, on March 26, 1887, to Edward C. and
Kate (Feltus) Vandenburgh. He received his B.S. (1908)
in civil engineering from Iowa State College
(University). Upon graduation he took a position as
tapeman with the Chicago and North Western Railway
System and eventually ascended to chief engineer.
Vandenburgh retired from the company in 1952.
Vandenburgh’s fiftieth class reunion (1958) coincided
with Iowa State College’s centennial anniversary during
which he received the Centennial Award from the Iowa
State College Alumni Association.
Vandenburgh married Charlotte
Knowles on June 3, 1913, with whom he had two sons:
Edward Clinton III and Garret Knowles. Vandenburgh died
on January 6, 1969.
His
son, Edward C. Vandenburgh III received his B.S. (1937)
in general engineering from Iowa State College
(University). As a student, he was a member of the Iowa
State Players, the General Engineering Society, and
Sigma Nu fraternity. |

This collection (1908-1970, n.d.)
contains materials associated with Edward Vandenburgh
and his son Edward Vandenburgh III. Materials related
to the senior Vandenburgh include biographical
information, correspondence, and his Centennial Award
certificate. There are also two ribbons received during
the class reunion contained in the Artifact Collection.
The material related to Edward III consists mostly of
photographs and negatives documenting his time as a
student and member of Sigma Nu fraternity while at Iowa
State.
