Collection description
|
|
This collection (1874)
contains one volume of botanical specimens collected by
Frank W. George. George collected the eighty-four plant
samples on or near the Iowa Agricultural College (Iowa
State University) campus from May through October 1874
as a requirement for his sophomore year botany classes.
The samples are carefully labeled with each plant's
order, genus, species, habitat, and date collected.
The book also contains seven samples collected and
pressed by Frank George's aunt, Mary George, and given
to him during his sophomore year at Iowa State.
According to a note left in the book by Frank, Mary
George's plants were originally collected in Kentucky in
1851.
