Biographical
note

Dale E. Madden received his Ph.D. (1954) from Iowa
State College (University) in Animal Science.
As a student at Iowa State he attended several classes
taught by Dr. Jay L. Lush. Lush
was a Professor of Animal Husbandry (1930-1971) at Iowa State.
He developed improvement of livestock through his genetic
and biometric research and also founded the field of population
genetics, which redefined the concept of animal breeds along
statistical norms.
