Biographical note
|
|
Leona Christina (Gronbech) Hougen was born March 19,
1905 in Jewell, Iowa. She
received a B.S. (1931) from Iowa State College (University). She worked her way through college as an elementary school
teacher in Radcliffe, Randall, and Coon Rapids, Iowa. Leona married Virgil Curtis Hougen on August 18, 1931 and
raised five children during the Great Depression.
Virgil worked as Lutheran minister in rural parishes in South
Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa; he died in April 1991.

clippings and articles relating to home economics and recipes collected by
Leona Hougen. Subjects in the
