Biographical
note
|
|
Hilda S. White, a native of Mercer, Pa.,
received a B.A. (1942) in Chemistry from Bethany College in West
Virginia. She started graduate school at Iowa State, but due to
World War II, returned to Bethany and taught general and organic
chemistry from 1943 until 1945. She completed her Ph.D. at Iowa
State after the war was over.
She married
Phillip Louis White (b. 1922) and accompanied him to Peru to
participate in a Harvard program to study the food habits of
Peruvians. After Phillip took a position with the American
Medical Association, Hilda became an Associate Professor in
Nutrition at the Home Economics Dept. at Northwestern
University. She retired when the Department was dissolved in
1973. She later worked for the Chicago Nutrition Association and
she served on the journal board of the American Dietetic
Association. Her research focused on the iron intake and status
of young women. |
