Biographical note

 
Donald Richard Theophilus was born January 6, 1899 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He received two Bachelor of Science degrees (1920 and 1922), a Master of Science degree (1924), and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (1935) from Iowa State College (University).

Theophilus began his career as an assistant in Dairying at Iowa State (1922-1923).  Before accepting a position at the University of Idaho in 1927, he worked for Western Kentucky State College (University).  Theophilus held several positions at the University of Idaho:  Associate Professor of Dairying (1927-1935), Head of the Department of Dairying (1935-1946), Dean of the Agriculture (1946-1954), Acting President of the University (1954-1955), and President (1955-1965). 

Theophilus was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi.  In 1958, he received the Iowa State College Alumni Association Centennial Award.

Donald Theophilus passed away May 11, 1970 in Moscow, Idaho.

The collection consists of Donald Theophilus’ course materials from classes he took as a student at Iowa State University.  The files include notebooks, lab manuals and handbooks, related readings, and exams for courses in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry, Chemistry, and English.
