Historical note

The Iowa Agriculture College ( IAC ) Grange was organized as Chapter # 2047.  The Grange, founded in 1868, is the second oldest agricultural society in Iowa.  The organizational structure is based on the Masonic Order.  The purpose of the organization was the advancement of agriculture though education rather than politics.  In the midwest, the Grange Movement was very quickly adopted due to the poor economic and social conditions endured by the farmers.  At monthly meetings, parliamentary law, book reviews, subjects of the day, and farming problems were discussed.
 

Collection description

The records include the constitution and bylaws, correspondence, the Manual of the Overseer, an early application for membership, dues accounts (in a role book), proceedings of a few annual sessions, the Amboy Grange rosters, a few miscellaneous rosters, and a 1925 Secretary's book.
