Biographical note

|
Harold
Maxwell Nichols attended Iowa State University and after World
War I worked for the Iowa Extension Service in Allamakee,
Hamilton, and Humbolt counties, Iowa. In World War I he served
as a bacteriologist with the Army Medical Corps. In 1917 Nichols
was a member of the International Livestock Judging Team.
Nichols also served as president of the National Association of
County Agricultural Agents. He moved to Texas in 1947, where he
completed his career in Extension service |

The Harold
M. Nichols Papers contain photographs, manuscripts, and
correspondence. The Iowa Extension material details Nichols'
work in Allamakee, Humbolt, and Hamilton counties. The
manuscripts cover reminiscences of his work and photographs from
those counties in the 1920s and 1930s. Other materials include
photographs and reminiscences of Iowa State University and World
War I and copies of The Iowa Agriculturist from 1915 and
The Iowa Veterinarian from 1930 and 1932. The veterinary
publications used photographs taken by Nichols related to hogs..
