Historical note

Veterinary Anatomy courses have been taught since 1872.  The Department was established in 1912 as the Department of Anatomy and Histology.  The present name was adopted in 1914.  The Department merged for a four year period, 1975-79, with the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology to form the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology.  The title of Department Head was changed to Department Chair in 1979.  In 1997, the Department of Veterinary Anatomy merged with the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology to form the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
