Biographical note

Carl C. Malone (1901-1986) was born in Iowa and married Lucile Holaday, with whom he had two daughters.

Malone received his Bachelor of Science degree (1923) in Animal Husbandry from Iowa State College (Iowa State University). He attended graduate school at Iowa State intermittently (1930-1941), but never completed an advanced degree.

Malone was employed by Iowa State as an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics (1942-1944), as an Associate Professor of Economics and Sociology (1944-1947), as a Professor of Economics and Sociology (1947-1959) and as a Professor of Economics (1960-1961). He worked as a consultant on India for the Ford Foundation (1960-1969).

Malone is the author of five books, including How to make your farm pay (Iowa State College Press, 1950), and A guide to agricultural modernization (Ford Foundation, 1970). He died May 31, 1986.

 

Collection description

The collection contains addresses, biographical information, correspondence, Intensive Agricultural Development Program (IADP) reports, manuscripts, maps, notes, notebooks, annual meeting programs, reference files, and transparencies. The majority of the collection documents Malone's work with the Ford Foundation in India.
