Biographical note

|
George O.
Strawn was born in DeKalb, Illinois on July 25, 1940. He
received a B. A. (1962) in Mathematics and Physics, and a Ph.
D. (1969) in Mathematics and Computer Science from Iowa State
University. While at Iowa State University, in teaching and
research, he was an instructor (1966-1969) in Mathematics and
Computer Science, an Assistant Professor (1969-1973) in
Mathematics and Computer Science, an Assistant Professor of
Computer Science (1973-1976), and an Associate Professor of
Computer Science (1976-1995).
In
administrative duties, he was a Systems Coordinator
(1971-1976) of the Computation Center, an Assistant Director
for Systems (1976-1980) of the Computation Center, Associate
Director 1980-1985) of the Computation Center, an Assistant
Dean (1981) of the College of Science and Humanities (now
called the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences), Chairman
(1982-1985) of the Computer Science Department, Acting
Director (1985), and Director (1986-1995) of the Computation
Center. Dr. Strawn retired in 1995.
He
married Candace Ann Christiansen, and they had three children:
Teresa, Cheryl, and Adam. |
