Biographical note

Arlington M. Fink received his B.A. of Mathematics (1956) from Wartburg College. He went on to receive his M.A. (1958), as well as his Ph. D.  of Mathematics (1960)  from Iowa State University.

Dr. Fink’s was employed as a Graduate Assistant (1957-1959) at Iowa State University and a research associate (1960) at Princeton University.  Dr. Fink was an Instructor of Mathematics (1960-1962) at the University of Virginia and an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Nebraska (1962-1966).  The University of Nebraska promoted him to Associate Professor of Mathematics (1966-1967) prior to his leaving for a position at Iowa State University as an Associate Professor of Mathematics (1967-1971).  Dr. Fink was soon promoted to Professor of Mathematics (1971-2003) and he became Professor Emeritus at Iowa State University in 2003.

A.M. Fink’s research interests include analysis, ordinary differential equations, inequalities, and almost periodic functions.  He belongs to several professional societies including the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), and Women in Mathematics. Dr. Fink received several honors and awards, among these are the Distinguished Service to Iowa Section MAA (1991) and the Citation for Distinguished Service to ISU from College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (1993).

Collection description

The collection contains Dr. Fink’s vita, news clippings, course materials for Mathematics 308 (Application of Linear Algebra to Discrete Optimization), and numerous publications.  The publications include Bibliography on Almost Periodic Functions and several other articles regarding almost periodic functions.
