Biographical
note
|
|
Phyllis Gill (Brackelsberg)
was born May 10, 1940 in Moorhead, Minnesota.
She received a B. S. (1961) in home economics education
from North Dakota State University, and an M. A. (1963) from the
University of Connecticut. She worked as a graduate assistant (1961-1963) at the
University of Connecticut, and as a lab assistant (1963-1965) in
textile and clothing at Oklahoma University.
During
her time at Iowa State University, she worked for the Iowa State
University Extension Service (1968-1970) making television films
relating to clothing construction.
She became an instructor (1969-1976) in textiles and
clothing, later promoted to Assistant Professor (1976-1985) and
Associate Professor (1985-1995). Professor Brackelsberg’s teaching emphasized undergraduate
courses and advising students.
She also worked on research, continuing education, and
extension. Professor Brackelsberg received an Outstanding Teacher
Award in 1980, and an Outstanding Advisor Award in 1994. She
received a Faculty Citation from Iowa State University Alumni
Association in 1985. She retired May 15, 1998, and currently lives
in Ames, Iowa. She
married Paul Brackelsberg, and they had three children: Phil,
Paula B., and Pamela B.

This collection (1979 – 1995) contains
biographical information including vitae and news clippings.
Professor Brackelsberg edited two tailoring manuals (1978 and
1982) contained in this collection. The second manual expanded the
first edition and included traditional and contemporary tailoring
techniques.
