 Biographical note

 
Joseph H. Anderson was born on April 12, 1871 in Winnebago County, Iowa.  He received his education in the rural schools of his home county, and in Cedar Falls at the Iowa State Teachers College where he received a Bachelors degree in 1898.  After graduation he became Principal of the Schools at Fairbanks, Iowa.  During that time he was also engaged in farming, with the exception January 1, 1905 to January 1, 1913, when he was Clerk of the District Court. 

Anderson was elected to the Iowa Legislature in 1914, and served continuously in the House of Representatives until 1923.  He served as speaker of the House during the 40th, and 40th Extra General Assemblies.  He was appointed by Governor Turner as a member of the State Board of Education in 1931 and served on the Board of Education for one term from 1931-1937.

The collection includes biographical information (1935-36), materials from the Iowa Board of Education (1926-1937), and the Iowa State College Agricultural Foundation (1931-1942).  Also included are assorted publications about agriculture and farm management (1914-1960), as well as a panoramic photograph of the Agriculture Committee of Iowa’s 39th General Assembly (1921).
